Dr Manju Anilkumar

Dear sisters of SI MADURAI.

I am extremely happy that we could all get together once in April 2021, despite the odds and am grateful to all those present for the AGM, which was certainly reassuring. I had always treasured being with this august gathering as a purpose driven relaxation with a sense of satisfaction through the meaningful projects I have been associated either directly or indirectly. It is a joy to help women and children who are less fortunate than us. Being with all of you gives the additional warmth especially when you stay far away from home.
We always try to work closely centered on the themes of the Soroptimist international the theme is – BRIGHT PAST & BRILLIANT FUTURE, which is now celebrating its centenary. The theme for SIGBI is WE STAND UP FOR WOMEN and for NASI it is AMITY.

THEME for our club for this year is to BRIDGE THE GAP, for women and for environment.

  1. BRIDGE THE GAP— by planting more native trees mentioned in the ancient books like Silapathikkaram and by trying to restore a part of the past glory of this ancient city famed in Sangam era. This will also bring in a good ecosystem in our locality.
  2. BRIDGE THE GAP—by advocacy of best cultural practices of the past for a better future for our younger generation.
  3. BRIDGE THE GAP—by empowering, educating and enabling less fortunate girls so that they improve the society.

Hope, this year we will be able to fight the pandemic and do more and we will try to reach out to many through the new platform of internet and zoom, if not possible physically in the initial months. Together we can try to make a small change, wherever possible, to make our surroundings a better world for the future generation to live in.  Saptapadinam sakhyam.  Friendship starts when we walk 7 steps together. So, we have come a long way then, in soroptimism, and may goddess Meenakshi bless us all to have this bonding for several years to come.

In friendship
Dr Manju Anilkumar,
President 2021- 2022,

SI Madurai.

Soroptimist International renders service for women and children to live their dreams through their mission ‘Educate,Empower,Enable’.

‘Road to Equality’ is a next step towards gender equality. We will continue to support women and children to overcome the obstacles like violence, gender bias issues, conflict and strengthen them to live their dreams.

It’s a great honour to take up as the President of SI Madurai, as we step into hundred years of celebrating service.
As ecologists say, one trillion trees have to be planted in the world in order to reduce the effect of global warming and to fight against climate change, which is a major issue that we are facing now.We will continue doing MIYAWAKI projects and support SIGBI’s theme of ‘ PLANTING TREES’ for the centenary celebration.

As we all understand, this is going to be a challenging year because of the COVID pandemic .Butt even during these unprecedented times we will still reach out to people and do everything possible to serve them.

I take inspiration from all the past Presidents and assure to work towards the goals of SI.I express my sincere gratitude to all my sisters for giving me this opportunity.

In friendship
Roopa Mahesh,
President,

SI Madurai.

Dear Friends,
“Strong Women are women who will lift and build others, who will love and be loved, women who live bravely, both tender and fierce. Women of indomitable will”. I am proud to concede Soroptimist International sisters are strong women dedicate themselves in transformation of society.
The status of women in the modern era is still a paradox. Women who performs multiple roles in family as well as in her carrier faces various challenges such us emotional, sexual, psychological and social stereotyping. Women become subjects of violence in the family, at workplace and in the society. Lack of power and inability to take Independent decisions obstruct her from reaching the heights. These issues have severe impact on their physical and mental well being.
Good Mental Health is the greatest gift, Contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship. Its fundamental of thriving in life which helps a woman climb up the ladder of success.
SI Madurai Chapter steps out of the shadows to enhance the Mental Health of Women and Girls in par with our International Theme” Think On It” with strategic priority on Mental Health for Women and Children. Our programmes and projects would give tremendous effort in different dimensions such us physical, psychological and social wellbeing which ultimately enhance the mental health of the woman.
We will involve the activities for NASI and SIGBI and strengthen our relationship in National and International level. I determined to carry out research studies( Intervention study) of families of mentally ill patients and promote nutrition securely of the poor households through home gardens.
Our programmes and projects are structured to benefits of our own SI Madurai Chapter and public by building capability to explore and take bold actions in shaping the world
I owe my gratitude to my fellow sisters, sisters clubs, well wishers, sponsors, donors, our friendship links, SIGBI, NASI of India.
We will join hands to bring changes by promoting and enhancing the mental health of women to face the challenges in their successful future.
