This was one of our projects. \nSI Madurai Fund for Empowerment through Education\nScholarship money was handed over to the girls of Meenakshi College\, Madurai. \nThe highlight of every Charter Day celebration of SI Madurai is the recognition of one outstanding woman from in and around the Madurai district who has contributed greatly to the cause of women. \nThis year\, the award was presented to a very dynamic lady. In the eyes of this determined woman\, you can surely sense the burning fire of a lifelong passion and commitment to women’s causes. Her steely determination not to compromise on any issue that impacts women’s lives bursts forth in every word and action of “The Iron Butterfly of Madurai.” \nShe is Ms. Bimla Chandrasekhar of EKTA Trust.

Solar energy will provide a practically inexhaustible resource that will enhance sustainability\, reduce pollution and lower the cost of mitigating climate change. \nSolar energy is becoming a crucial investment for our Earth’s future as we face climate change and natural resource shortages worldwide. \nSolar Energy & Climate Change\nThe need for alternative energy has become more and more apparent as the imminent threat of climate change becomes a reality. \nSoroptimist International (SI) President\, Anne Garvie\, has given a call for a solar project\, namely “SEE SOLAR\, COOK SOLAR”\, in tune with the UN Project of International Year of Light\, 2015. \nSolar Energy Awareness Initiative of SI Madurai\nIn the year 2015\, SI Madurai proposed to take up an awareness project for the conservation of non-renewable resources and the integration of solar power into our everyday lives. \nAs part of our Green Madurai Project\, we wish to create and maintain a traffic island in Madurai with a very ornamental and functional solar lamp post. This will be a beautiful landmark in Madurai city and will also carry the message of energy conservation through the use of solar power. \nLet’s make this International Year of Light a great success together! Let us support the shift towards the use of solar power in our day-to-day lives!
