Solar Energy

The energy from our sun that reaches the Earth can be converted into heat and electricity, and governments and scientists worldwide are working to develop affordable and clean solar energy technologies. Solar energy will provide a practically inexhaustible resource that will enhance sustainability, reduce pollution and lower the cost of mitigating climate change.

Solar energy is becoming a crucial investment for our Earth’s future as we face climate change and natural resource shortages worldwide.

Solar Energy & Climate Change

The need for alternative energy has become more and more apparent as the imminent threat of climate change becomes a reality.

Soroptimist International (SI) President, Anne Garvie, has given a call for a solar project, namely “SEE SOLAR, COOK SOLAR”, in tune with the UN Project of International Year of Light, 2015.

Solar Energy Awareness Initiative of SI Madurai

In the year 2015, SI Madurai proposed to take up an awareness project for the conservation of non-renewable resources and the integration of solar power into our everyday lives.

As part of our Green Madurai Project, we wish to create and maintain a traffic island in Madurai with a very ornamental and functional solar lamp post. This will be a beautiful landmark in Madurai city and will also carry the message of energy conservation through the use of solar power.

Let’s make this International Year of Light a great success together! Let us support the shift towards the use of solar power in our day-to-day lives!
